Abstract
Many commentators, in response to the opposition's claim about the possibility of the Prophet learning knowledge from the People of the Book in Mecca, try to deny the presence of this minority in the first years of the Prophet's life in Mecca. When faced with Meccan verses that refer to people of the book, this group considers the revelation of these verses to be discrete, ignoring numerous historical and Qur'anic evidences, and introduces them as Madani. Their most important argument is the impossibility of the presence of the People of the Book in Mecca and as a result the verses were separated from the context of the Surah and their late revelation. This is because the findings of the present research, relying on historical, narrative, Qur'anic and commentary documents, prove the presence of Jewish and Christian people of the book during the Prophet's presence in Mecca.
